Creative Director
Alex Toohey has creatively led Australia's most iconic and large-scale rebrands including Toyota, Qantas, Caltex Australia, Ampol, Lendlease, UTS, Macquarie Group, Jetstar, OFX and NRMA.
As Creative Director of Houston Group, Alex understands that modern brands need to adapt, inspire and connect with audiences, driving the Houston team to deliver on the demands of business strategy with impactful brand and design solutions. Alex places great importance on a healthy and collaborative team culture, encouraging open creative thinking to challenge the expected, and deliver innovative outcomes to every brief.
Through Houston's generous social agenda, Alex proudly supports a range of non-profit causes and organisations with pro bono branding and campaigns for The Wayside Chapel, Heart Cafe, Black Dog Mental Health Institute, The Luke Batty Foundation, CareerTrackers and The Origin Foundation.
Prior to Houston, Alex’s career in branding and creative direction has spanned Sydney, London and Paris where he directed campaigns for Hermès, Ted Baker London, Top Shop and Acne Studios. He has previously held Director positions at Frost Design and Moon Communications Group.
Alex's work has been highly recognised and awarded, receiving multiple national and international awards including an AGDA Pinnacle, Cannes Lion, Award Awards Gold Pencils, Best Awards Gold Pins among countless others. He has held the position of Juror for the 'Australian Graphic Design Awards' (Australia's peak industry body for branding and graphic design) and Australia's 'Award' Awards two years running.
Alex is an AGDA Mentor, supporting emerging Australian designers through practical career guidance and support for their professional journeys.
Alex studied BA Graphic Design at both Newcastle and Canberra Universities.
